Clinic Acqua
I have been selected as part of the Digital Artist in Residence at the Digital Centre – ARCHiVe, Fondazione Giorgio Cini. The research is still in progress. I am exploring the fluid boundries and the wet ontology of the Venetian Lagoon by transforming archival maps, photographs, and 3D digital records of the San Giorgio Maggiore Island into immersive digital landscapes.
During the first mobility period, the project established its research and conceptual foundation. Working with ARCHiVe's digital collections, point clouds, photographic archives, and documentation of San Giorgio Maggiore, I identified and selected archival materials relevant to the project's ecological and architectural focus. This research informed the development of the project's narrative structure, including a storyboard, chapter concepts, and initial visualizations for the digital film and exhibition installation.
The digital film explores boundaries and reconsiders the notion of borders. Within the 3D digital scans, the distinction between nature and architecture dissolves, forming a continuous landscape rather than separate entities. This offers a new perspective on the ecological entanglement of the built and natural environment. Venice provides a unique context for this investigation, where water, sediment, stone, wood, islands, and architecture continuously shape one another. The archival material at Fondazione Giorgio Cini documents these relationships through both two-dimensional and three-dimensional recording processes. The film is inspired by these materials and findings while reinterpreting the archive through speculative storytelling and immersive digital environments. By transforming archival documents into an explorable digital landscape, the project invites audiences to experience the archive as a dynamic ecological system rather than a static record of the past.
