Department of Interfaced Dimensions (D.I.D) is a collective XR experience developed by seven artists during a residency at V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam. The work draws inspiration from the 1964 sci-fi novel Simulacron-3 and addresses topics like XR, AI, Machine Consciousness, Data Privacy, Surveillance, Simulation Theory, Existential Risk, and the Future of Humanity.
As digital information floods our screens without meaning, we become visually submerged, losing the ability to evaluate what we see. This blurs our distinction between reality and simulation, leaving us overwhelmed and uncritical of the images we consume or happily give away for free. This immersive environment invites the participator to a digital experience where you are surrounded by an interactive image-world. These images are real time captures of the visitor’s faces. Between certain tasks, the participator tries to escape the simulation.
